The problem with facts is a problem for health

This article from the Financial Times -- The problem with facts -- is an enormously disturbing one for anyone who is actually concerned about getting past politics, bias, herd thinking, and the other barriers to knowledge.

In brief, this is a very well documented article about the "post truth" world which was actually invented and rolled out by PR giant Hill & Knowlton on behalf of their largest client: the tobacco industry, which wanted to hide the scientific facts about cancer. The article shows how the tobacco industry's successful "fake news" campaign confused people, still confuses people, and kills an estimated 6 million people each year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

It is a particularly disturbing problem for the Stealth Syndrome Human Study because the chemical industry employs some of the same people, junk science studies, and uses the same tactics to confuse people about the well-documented, scientific facts on the effects of the harmful industrial chemical burdens we all carry in bodies.

Lew's been a scientist, a Silicon Valley start-up founder, a professor, journalist, best-selling book author, inventor and co-founder of the Stealth Syndromes Project. Biomedical scientist Becca Yeamans-Irwin helped co-found that project.

The Stealth Epidemic project began as a collaborative effort in 2012 (Stealth Syndrome Study, Part 1: Where Did The Idea Come From?) to translate the science and consequences of questionable environmental chemicals -- primarily those in our food and beverages.

When we realized that no science existed to provide scientifically sound conclusions, we then set out to do that science. That became the Stealth Syndromes Human Study.

That study protocol was approved by the Committtee on Human Research of one of the world's foremost biomedical research institutions: The University of California, San Francisco Medical School.

To keep costs down, the study was designed to focus on Bisphenol A (BPA) because of its presence in almost all Americans.

After working for more than a year on hot to implement the study, Perdue and Yeamans-Irwin came face to face with the reality that doing the study correctly was going to cost $2oo,000+ primarily for outside laboratory costs and the need to rigorously design methods to control food and beverage intake and to measure the BPA levels in both the food/beverages and Lab Rat Perdue.

To pay for the lab work, Perdue and Yeamans-Irwin decided to crowdfund the necessary expenses to get things off the ground. Next would come the Center for Research on Environmental Chemicals in Humans which is a federally tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
